USP College Rugby Team Crowned National Champions at AoC Finals

USP College is celebrating a monumental achievement after their Rugby 7’s team secured first place at the prestigious Association of Colleges (AoC) National Championships. This year's AoC Finals were held in Nottingham this past weekend, where top sports teams from colleges across the country competed. 

After a weekend of hard work and determination, USP College's talented rugby squad emerged as National Champions, bringing home the gold and cementing their place as the best college Rugby 7's team in England. Each game in the tournament, the team went undefeated, beating top colleges Exeter, Bishop Burton and Loughborough for the final win.

The success didn’t stop there for the college. Students across multiple sports disciplines in USP College's Storm Academy delivered outstanding performances:

  • Pan-Disability Football earned a bronze medal, showcasing great skill and teamwork.
  • Kyla Eves represented the college in Tennis, reaching final fours and finishing a strong 4th place.
  • Men’s Football team also performed admirably, finishing 7th nationally.

The AoC National Championships are one of the largest student sporting events in the UK, bringing together over 1,800 student athletes from colleges across the country. Representing the East Region this weekend, USP College made a lasting impact on the competition with standout performances, sportsmanship and regional pride.

All students involved in the Championships represented the College immensely well, making the College proud. Their achievements highlight the hard work of Storm Academy and their dedication to student success. 

Storm Academy Co-ordinator, Danny Cleare, attended the Finals, stating “It was a fantastic weekend with all of our students competing really well and fighting for medals on the last day of the Championships. The Pan-Disability Football team did incredible to win a bronze medal as they are newly formed and they are already competing with the best in the country".

Cleare highlighted the Rugby 7's victory as an "amazing achievement and something we are really proud of”.

Storm Academy provides all USP College students passionate about sports the opportunity to train with expert coaches and to compete in various regional and national leagues. All students are welcomed to try-out to join Storm Academy, no matter their field of study.

The Academy are also hosting try-outs during half-term breaks for Year 11 applicants, who are due to join the College in September 2025.
