Course Overview

This qualification is intended for post-16 learners wanting to progress directly to self-employment in the coaching and sports development sector as a coach/teacher.  It enables learners to develop underpinning knowledge and technical skills, and the ability to use their knowledge and skills to positively impact sports development programmes, as well as gain experience as an assistant coach.

What will I study?

Assessment methods for this qualification are all internal using a variety of methods with first year units including;

  • Developing Coaching Skills
  • Sports Development
  • Health, Wellbeing and Sport
  • Careers in the Sport & Active Leisure Industry
  • Self-Employment in Sport & Physical Activity
  • Organising Events in Sport & Physical Activities

Students will also be able to complete a Level 3 qualification from UK Sports Leaders in the leadership and organisation of sports and physical activity events.

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language or Maths.

or 

  • A Level 2 BTEC Diploma in a related subject and grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language or Maths. 

What could I do next?

The course is practical in nature and will provide excellent opportunities for students to lead and volunteer across a range of sports and activities. The qualification also supports progression to a range of higher education courses such as Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Sports Management etc. This is a career-focused qualification with industry endorsement and accreditation.
