Level 1 Health & Social Care is an ideal course for a school leaver and is designed as an introduction to college and will focus on the personal, social and employability skills you will need to progress to further study in the healthcare sector (Level 2 Health & Social Care). Applicants also have the opportunity to progress onto employment-based programmes such as the Supported Internship course or an Apprenticeship in healthcare.

What will I study?

Applicants will study a variety of units that will look at developing soft skills such as planning, communication and motivation as well as hard skills such as reflective skills, planning and delivering presentations informing others about healthy lifestyle choices. Applicants will also study Maths & English (if not at grade 4) as well as having lessons on different tutorial topics each week. Finally, there may be opportunities to take part in community-based projects at college which will enable learners to develop social skills and work within their local community.

In addition, you will take part in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) days and have the opportunity to attend trips to places including, for example Colchester Zoo, Stubbers and other local attractions. This may also include guest lectures from different career sectors such as Recruitment, Social Work and Apprenticeships to develop your local skills knowledge.
