Course Overview

Applied Science is a practical course ideal for those wishing to pursue a career in a scientific field, including medical science, pharmaceutical science, analytical scientist, toxicologist or laboratory technician.

This course will give you a broad understanding of scientific principles including; practical microbiological skills, health and diseases, basic chemical analysis, physics of the universe and practical scientific skills. You will study all three science disciplines. This course concentrates on the knowledge, skills and techniques required for work in modern analytical sciences.

This course is assessed by the use of examinations and coursework. It is ideal for learners who thrive in an engaging hands-on style of learning. 

What will I study?

This course will give you a broad understanding of scientific principles including; practical microbiological skills, health and diseases, basic chemical analysis, physics of the universe and practical scientific skills. You will study all three science disciplines. This course concentrates on the knowledge, skills and techniques required for work in modern analytical sciences. You learn in the classroom to aid in developing a high level of practical laboratory skills that will stand you in good stead for further study.

Entry requirements

  • Four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English, Maths and Science.
  • At least one GCSE needs to be at grade 4 or above

Additional costs

You can choose to purchase a lab coat from the college for approximately £10.

There may also be trips that could incur costs of £50

What could I do next?

Following on from your Level 2 qualification you may choose to continue onto the Level 3 Applied Science program or other related further studies in Animal Science or Health Care. Alternatively you may choose to then pursue an apprenticeship or employment in the science sector.
