This is a FREE* course for learners aged 19 or over who need to obtain a GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths.
This course will encourage you to develop confidence and build a positive attitude towards challenges in mathematics. You will gain skills and knowledge to cope with daily situations that require good mathematical knowledge.
GCSE maths covers a range of topics including:
The course also includes a large element of functional maths, which will show you how to apply maths in real-world situations.
You will be taught through classroom-based teaching which will also have an element of individual independent study, supported by the college's Virtual Learning Environment and online resources. Your progress will be assessed every lesson informally and formally through class tests and mocks. There will also be regular one-to-one sessions with teachers to receive individual feedback and to review targets.
GCSE Mathematics has a Foundation tier (grades 1 – 5) and a Higher tier (grades 4 – 9). Students must take three question papers at the same tier. All question papers must be taken in the same series.
End of year exams will take place in May/June and attendance to these exams are mandatory.
You will be required to complete an initial assessment to ensure that this course is an appropriate starting point.

A GCSE grade C/4 or above in Maths is essential for certain careers and is well regarded by the majority of potential employers.
You can also go on to study one of the many Access to Higher Education courses at the college in preparation for university.
