Course Overview

Equivalent to half an A-Level, the Extended Project Qualification is an opportunity for second-year students to develop independent research, presentation and essay writing skills.

You will undertake a project on a topic of your choosing and you can approach this in a number of different ways; you could produce a research-based report, or make something more creative.

What will I study?

There will be guidance from teachers in timetabled lessons where you will learn the key skills required to successfully complete an EPQ, but you undertake your Extended Project Qualification independently.

The project itself will be undertaken outside of the classroom. The final project is assessed, including your accompanying log book, and assessment of your final presentation. There is no exam. The project can take the form of either a 5,000 word dissertation or the creation of an artefact accompanied by a 1,500 word report.

Entry requirements

It is recommended that students have the following:

  • Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language and Maths.

Please note that this course is only available for second-year students. You will be able to apply for it when you are studying at the College.

What could I do next?

This course is designed specifically to help you develop the skills necessary to enter Higher Education and employment. It is also looked upon favourably by Oxford, Cambridge and other selective universities; this qualification can help applicants to stand out from the crowd when applying for popular degree courses like Medicine.
