Advances in computing are transforming the way we work and our new Computer Science qualification will prepare you for this every changing field. This qualification is suitable for students looking to develop their applied knowledge and skills in Information Technology as part of a study programme alongside A Levels.

What will I study?

On this computer science course you will study topics covering a wide scope from Fundamentals of programming, Theory of computation and how algorithms are key. You will also look at computer organisation and architecture, communication and networking alongside databases and the huge growth area of Big Data. These are all assessed through 2 terminal examinations (80% of grade). Your systematic approach to problem solving is then looked at during a non-exam assessment, a computing practical project (20% of grade).

Modules

The course is assessed continuously. Units 1 and 3 are externally assessed. Students will sit one exam at the end of year 1  and one in January of year 2. Students will also submit three pieces of coursework during each year. Units 2 and 15 are internally assessed with students working to use web scripting skills to solve problems for local firms.

Entry requirements

    • Grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths.

Additional costs
