Course Overview

If you are interested in a career in any engineering discipline, plan to go on to university or a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship, then this course could be an ideal choice. This practical course will see you develop both hands-on skills and academic knowledge of Engineering.

This course is a Level 3 National Extended Certificate equivalent to one A-Level and can be studied as part of an A-Level programme.

What will I study?

  • Health & Safety in the Engineered Workplace
  • Mechanical Principles & Applications 
  • Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
  • Electrical and Electronic Principles
  • Engineering Project.

Teaching is a mixture of classroom based theory and practical work; you’ll learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. All of the work will be assessed through coursework.

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
  • Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language.
  • Grade 6 or above in GCSE Maths.

To study this course you will ideally be studying A-Level Maths and another Engineering related A-Level, so that you have the best chance of progression into Higher Education or a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship.

What could I do next?

This course will give you a choice of opportunities once you have completed it.
You could decide to go on to study a degree in a wide range of Engineering disciplines, or you could progress to a Higher Level Apprenticeship in a variety of different engineering companies. You could go directly into employment in a variety of engineering disciplines, such as a Technician or Technician Engineer.
